On a bright and sunny Saturday, 22nd July 2023, a remarkable cycling event took place, sponsored by MaMa Doing Gooda charitable organization known for its commitment to environmental causes. The event saw over 50 enthusiastic cyclists gather in Eldoret to embark on a meaningful journey to Kimondi Forest (Kiptuiya, Nandi County) and back. The initiative aimed to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices while supporting a crucial tree-planting project. The event came as s run up to the Re-Discover Nandi Road race that was held the following day.
Among the cyclists, Kipsaro Arap BoitBoit proudly represented Koitaleel Samoei University Collegege, showcasing the institution’s dedication to environmental conservation. The team’s passion for cycling and commitment to preserving the natural world added a sense of purpose to the event.
The primary objective of the cycling event was to raise awareness about the importance of environmentally-friendly means of transportation. Mama Rachel Rutothe First Lady and a well-known cycling enthusiast, actively participated in the event through MaMa CyCling serving as an inspiring example for others. As she is a strong advocate for eco-friendly transportation options, her involvement lent significant credibility to the cause.
The destination of the cycling journey, Kimondi Forest, held great significance as it was the site chosen for a tree-planting initiative. Representatives from both the county and national governments were present to support this noble cause, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in preserving the environment.
Additionally, Mama Doing established a fruit garden in Kimondi School and generously donated sanitary towels to empower local communities.
